Fall 2010

In Fall 2010 we are offering MATH 2130: Probability and Statistics with a computational flavor. We will cover (roughly) the same topics as the regular offering but we will use computational demonstrations and experiments to develop understanding of the material.

Topics include descriptive statistics; discrete and continuous probability distributions; conditional probability; Bayes' theorem; point and interval estimation; hypothesis testing.

We will offer one section of the class during each half-semester session. The time committment during each session is comparable to a 4-credit course. This course satisfies 2 credits of MATH and the Probability/Statistics course requirement.

The prerequisite for the class is Software Design or equivalent programming experience in Python. If you are taking Software Design in the fall, you can enroll in the second session of this class. If you have already taken MATH 2130, you cannot take this class.

Class meetings: Session 1 (first half): Monday and Thursday, 8-9:50 am.
Session 2 (second half): Monday and Thursday, 3-4:50 pm.
